Yes, our premium oils are the highest quality possible, which makes them all 100% pure therapeutic grade. That said, we do not believe in using marketing buzzwords to sell our essential oils. Despite some online claims, there is no official grading system for essential oils. We are an honest company with a mission to make aromatherapy approachable and easy while also standing behind the consistent high-quality of our products.
To this end, the quality of our oil is maintained from growing, harvest, extraction and bottling. Our oils are tested throughout the entire process. Our premium essential oils are unlike any others because we actually do the work to make sure our oils are as effective as they are pure.
No pesticides, synthetic chemicals, herbicides, GMOs or harmful chemicals are ever used during any stage of the growing or extraction process. Every supplier and partner we work with must strictly follow all USDA food/product safety guidelines. Because we understand the importance of quality and purity, we never add any bases, carriers or additives to our essential oils.
To confirm quality, our single essential oils are GC/MS (gas chromatography mass spectrometry) tested. The reports are available on every product page under “Quality Reports.” Transparency is paramount to everything we do. If you have any questions about quality or safety, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Yes, we do GC/MS (gas chromatography mass spectrometry) testing on every batch of essential oils we sell. These tests help ensure extract purity and composition potency by ensuring major constituents are within generally accepted guidelines, as well as providing quantitative and qualitative proof that the received product matches approved samples. If a certain batch does not meet our standards we do not release them for sale.
Think of a GC/MS like an essential oil report card. In the world of essential oils, GC/MS testing is the highest standard of analysis. The report verifies the authenticity, quality and purity of the essential oil as well as identifies its individual constituents. The constituents are what show the oil’s therapeutic value. This is important because the potency of the constituent can have a dramatic effect on the oil’s effectiveness.
GC/MS is an abbreviation of Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometry. The report separates an essential oil into its individual constituents which show up in varying degrees through a linear graph and percentages. The GC/MS lets us know if there are any adulterants or additives in the oil so we can confidently ensure the purity of every drop of oil we carry.
To run the test, the essential oil is heated and vaporized in a gas chromatograph machine. The oil moves through a column assisted by a carrier gas (helium or hydrogen). Because the natural compounds of the oil move at different rates, the constituents can be distinguished by their molecular makeup. At the end of the machine, a detector measures each constituent which results in a chromatogram report. After the constituents are identified in the GC, its put through a mass spectrometer. The machine breaks down molecules to be sorted and counted according to their mass. For a more detailed breakdown by the Tisserand Institute, click here.
Yes, we source our essential oils from places in which they naturally occur because we believe in maintaining the purity and beauty of our planet. Sustainability is central to our mission. In order for an individual essential oil to thrive, specific criteria for needs a climate, altitude, water and elevation need to be met which means, plants grown in ingenious locations are going to yield better essential oils.
No. Your health and safety are at the forefront of our formulating, testing and packaging. No pesticides, synthetic chemicals, herbicides, GMOs, toxic chemicals or fertilizers are ever used during any stage of the growing or distillation process.
Our essential oils are sourced from dozens of international farms around the world. Some of those countries have organic certification systems but others do not. Whenever possible, we source from organic growers and distillers. Our oils are always non-GMO, pesticide-free and free of any not naturally occurring.
No, we never test on animals. Everything we offer is 100% vegan, and cruelty-free. We love our fur-friends too much. Only human (and willing) test subjects need apply. Hey, if you want to share your transformative experience with our oils (which happens a lot), drop us a line!
Nope, we are a direct-to-consumer company. At Aromawest, you are always getting a reasonable price because we don’t have to deal with pesky MLM markups. We work hard to pass as many deals as possible straight to you.
We get this question a lot. Our prices low because we sell directly to you. We don’t have to pay our premiums to MLMs or a giant executive board of directors. Our high-quality oils are only available online and through a few select wholesale partners. That enables us to keep our overheads fairly low so we can pass the savings on to you.
Aromawest’s oils are 100% pure and high quality. Without more scientific research, we cannot promote the ingestion of any essential oils from our company or any others. Essential oils are incredibly potent and some individuals may be more sensitive than others. Therefore, we recommend seeing a licensed aromatherapist and discussing the usage with your medical physician before any internal use. The International Federation of Aromatherapists also does not recommend the internal use of essential oils unless under the supervision of a Medical Doctor who is also qualified in clinical aromatherapy.
Numerous essential oils, like Sandalwood, actually improve over time. Other oils that are extracted through a cold-pressed method, like Grapefruit, Lemon and Orange have a general shelf life of about 6 months to a year. To safeguard your essential oils, store them in a cool, low-light space.
Before applying essential oils to your skin, be sure to dilute with a carrier oil or lotion. For topical use, we recommend a 3-5% dilution rate and a 1% dilution rate on the face. Some essential oils are more potent than others so perform a quick patch test before applying on a large area. Additionally, some essential oils are photosensitizing which can lead to sunburns if you do not first apply sunscreen.

We’ve received amazing feedback from pregnant women who have used our essential oils. But before adding anything to your wellness or beauty regime, we recommend having a conversation with your doctor. At Aromawest, your health and safety matter immensely to us. That’s why our oils are free from adulterants such as pesticides, synthetics chemicals, toxic fertilizers, GMOs, and anything not naturally occurring. As a general rule, avoid essential oils during your first trimester of pregnancy or during difficult pregnancies. Again, talk to your doctor about your options.
Aromatherapist, Robert Tisserand, states that there may be no difference between organic and non-organic essential oils due to the insignificant amount of pesticides typically found in non-organic essential oils. We appreciate that consumers are holding the natural industry to a higher standard and, as much as possible, we try to source all our products from organic growers and distillers from across the globe. While at the same time we believe that non-organic essential oils do not run the risk of containing consequential amounts of pesticides, given a GC/MS test is provided for oil batches.
On each Aromawest product page, you will be able to see what method of extraction is used. There are three main methods of distillation:
- Steam Distilled: Plant material is placed in a distillation unit with water inside. Heat is then applied to the unit. As the water heats, the plant part (sacs) holding the essential oil will then release the essential oil. Oil droplets rise with steam droplets and are sucked into a pipe. The oil and water are joined at this point. To separate them, the steam runs through a steam pipe that connects to a cooling unit. The oil and water separate in this cooling process. Two separate pipes collect water in one, and oil in another.
- Cold Pressed: A machine separates the peel from the citrus fruit, then mashes the peel to release the essential oil from the peel’s sacs. Water is passed over the plant material. The plant material, water and oil are passed through a sieve and then separated in a centrifuge where the components are spun at high speeds, separating the water and oil.
- Solvent Extracted: Delicate plant material, such as flower petals, are washed and mashed in a chemical substance such as hexane or benzene. These chemicals pull the essential oil from the plant material. The mixture of solvent and the essential oil is then carefully separated with ethanol, creating what is called an “Absolute.”
Several of our staff members can analyze an oil by its aroma. We work with seasoned aromatherapists and chemists and have certified aromatherapists that approve every batch of essential oil and every blend that we sell.
If you are wanting to start with single essentials to use individually or blend yourself, we suggest starting with Lavender, Peppermint, and Lemon. Those will be a great jumping-off point and can be used for a range of therapeutic needs and can also be used to make finished products.
We also recommend starting with some of our beautiful blends. These have all been crafted by certified aromatherapists and are truly life-changing.
We recommend room-temperature water. If the temperature is too hot or too cold, the mist may form water drops. We also suggest using filtered water when possible.
